Mapping our tootle
It’s all very well to be irresponsibly wandering around Australia and posting a few blogs to describe the journey but where in the heck have we been? A friend of mine mentioned in a mail that it all sounded great but he actually had no idea where we were. And to be fair, sometimes neither do we. But after many weeks had passed we finally lashed out on a $6 laminated placemat map of Australia and traced our course thus far.
As you can see from the map below which has our path marked on it, we’ve followed a generally counter-clockwise trail around the continent, being sure to see all the key points on our hit list and detouring occasionally to catch extra places of interest. This tootle, one of our favourite words, has taken us over 21,000 kilometres and 84 days just to reach Perth. And we wouldn’t trade in a moment of it.
By the time we’re finished, all things going to plan, we’ll complete this circumnavigation of Australia and end up back in Sydney where it all began on 3 July. And most scarily, what will we do then?
By the way, in the banner photo at the top you can catch a rare glimpse of Dusty the Crocodile, our mascot during this entire trip, away from his usual home near the gearshift, as he enjoys a cup of coffee one recent morning.
